Prof. Wilfried Niessen
Prof. Wilfried Niessen has more than 20 years of experience as a researcher and project manager in the field of liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry. Since 1996, he worked as an independent consultant for his company hyphen MassSpec. In 2002, he was appointed (part-time) extraordinary professor in bioanalytical mass spectrometry at the Faculty of Science of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
Since the beginning of hyphen MassSpec, Prof. dr. Niessen has been involved in many different consultancy projects within industry, governmental institutes and other laboratories in United Europe, Israel, the Far East and Canada. In the past nine years he has provided more than 200 courses for more than 2000 participants. He is (co)author of more than 120 refereed papers in the field of LC-MS. The third edition of his book Liquid Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry is currently in preparation (1st edition 1992, 2nd  1998). He edited a book on Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (2001) and co-edited several special volumes of the Journal of Chromatography A on "Mass Spectrometry: Innovation and Application". Prof. dr. Wilfried Niessen is a member of the editorial board of Journal of Chromatography A and the editor of Volume 8: Hyphenated Methods of the Encyclopedia of Mass Spectrometry, published by Elsevier.
